As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen – Review

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs, chapter 23, verse 7

As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen is a short work full of inspiration and soul. It is the kind of reading that you can finish in one sitting, feeling centered, elevated, and focus as your eyes consume its lines. At its heart, the book discusses the power of thought and how it impacts our lives even when we are unaware. Allen champions the importance of having pure thoughts, and guarding one’s mind on a consistent basis, as true success and happiness can only come from the inside.

The book is broken down into seven sections, discussing: Thought and Character, Effect of Thought on Circumstances, Effect of Thought on Health and the Body, Thought and Purpose, The Thought-Factor in Achievement, Visions and Ideals, and Serenity. Each captures an important aspect of life, and unlike most self-development books, discusses it in a brisk pace without unnecessary fluff. The writing style is superb and will take you in on a journey of self-discovery. In an interview, Tony Robbins named this compendium as one of his top 3 most influential books, so if you don’t believe me, believe him.

“Man is made or unmade by himself; in the armory of thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself.”

“Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.”

“Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself.”

Every page had a purpose, and it was well written so my verdict:
